It wasn't on purpose, but not completely accidentally :) There were
enough questions around 3.10 versus 3.8 that I wrongly assumed that
3.10 was the way forward and we'd only merge that part.

I've just pushed this change to the meta branch of 3.8, and your
BSP layers can be udpated to take advantage of it.
