You should be safe modifying layers_default to a more minimal set,
otherwise you're free to use other setup scripts, e.g. the standard
oe-init-build-env from poky or oe-core, and add meta-mentor to your
bblayers.conf manually.

Thanks, and let me know how it goes. I'll look into whittling that default
layer set down to match up with the README when we have the time to do so.
