I spent a few days looking at RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.5 and 7.0 Beta 1, just to try out the distributed build feature (haven’t tested that out yet, got sidetracked trying to stabilise the installation on the GigaByte thunderbolt motherboard). The issues I’ve faced are mostly with the graphics display drivers, which are a bit flaky.

It takes a while figuring out the quirks of a particular distro.

The Xilinx tools seem to launch fine on RHEL-6.5. However I haven’t run any builds on it yet. I learned that the jump from RHEL 6.5 to 7.0 brings with it a whole set of potential incompatibilities for graphical application, with RHEL 7.0 using Gnome 3.8. This is similar to the jump from Ubuntu-12.10 to Ubuntu-14.04 (not yet released, but you can get it off the testing builds), which also uses portions of Gnome 3.x with a Unity interface.

Let me know how things go with the Fedora 19 / 20 installation and the Xilinx ISE/Vivado tools.

Best regards,
