I have a "resolution" to this one. There are definitely still some
underlying kernel problems but at the moment I don't care to debug further
as I don't need the broken features. My observations are as follows:
If I revert this whole patch I still see the issue

However, if I only revert the spi-zynqmp-gqspi.c file in the patch then I
no longer get garbled output. It seems likely this is a subtle miss on
Xilinx's part.
Even after reverting the spi-zynqmp-gqspi.c file I was getting the

I then made the following kernel configuration changes:
# CONFIG_OF_UNITTEST is not set
# CONFIG_OF_OVERLAY is not set
Now my system boots again.
It seems to me there is some bug with either the DT overlay support in the
kernel, or with some portion of Xilinx's power management and/or
QSPI/SPI-NOR layer implementation which results in fatal errors in the DT
overlay support. I'll let Xilinx dig in further on that as I can now move
forward again.

Hi,
Those are changes in some driver or the device tree. So, you should start
debugging the kernel.
You got System.map of the built kernel?
Could be the driver that printed "input: gpio-keys"...
"UBI attaching" messages look promising.
Also, can you boot from SD card? If successful mount UBI manually?

I just updated my kernel from linux-xlnx 2017.2 tag to the 2017.3 tag. I'm
using the master branch of meta-xilinx, meta-xilinx-tools, and the
rel-v2017.3 tag of meta-petalinux.
Prior to the update, I had a fully functional system supporting boot from

Is there any known explanation for this change in behavior? I've posted
previously on the Xilinx community forums, this mailing list, and on
Xilinx SR's regarding a variety of problems with the QSPI hardware, the
accompanying driver, and the spi-nor layer support on the ZCU102. I'm
expecting this to be yet another Xilinx kernel driver issue. Can anyone
point me in the right direction here so I can avoid another week-long
kernel debug session?
