We have only had preliminary discussions about this, but I believe Alex
has some ideas which I think involve using the existing OE Metadata Index
as a starting point. He might be able to provide some more details.

Totally agree. I think the idea would be that whomever sets up the Toaster
instance can set up additional layer sources as well, which will be
available to Toaster users exactly in the same way as the default layer
sources. You will be able to query and browse the additional layer sources
using the same interface we provide to query and browse the default
OpenEmbedded layer source.
