[yocto] bbappend file not used

Does your layer.conf tell bitbake to read bbappends?  Should be something
like:

BBFILES += "${LAYERDIR}/recipes-*/*/*.bb \
            ${LAYERDIR}/recipes-*/*/*.bbappend"
