And more so, if you are going to pick a distro to standardize on, at least
pick the popular one used today for the majority of developers...which to me
is Ubuntu.
Back in the late 90s, when Linux was first becoming viable, Red Hat Enterprise
Server was the defacto standard for most corporate use. In fact, I worked at
VA Linux System (some may remember that company), and the rule of thumb was
that if you could not get Debian configured, use VA's distro which was based
on RH. Most developers wanted to use Debian, as "apt is the $#!T", as we all
used to say...
Here we are 15 years later and Ubuntu is the defacto standard for corporate
use, AFAICT. At least I get asked and see Ubuntu is much wider use than RHES
these days.
This is why Xilinx leaves everyone with a shell that looks like an abortion on
most current development systems, pathing in their f#@$'d up RH libraries
under the covers...:-(
