Sorry to be slow, I've been anxious to try this but have been busy with

I don't understand your comment above, does that mean both JP2 and JP6 are
both shorted with jumpers on them?

Ah, so it broke...I will get the meta-topic and do as you have done...I'm
following in your footsteps. I came on this list just after you had gotten
yours working I 'spose...didn't know...

Yes, I'm using meta-xilinx. I have mine configured for MACHINE=zedboard-zynq7,
should I use something else? I also have a build of zc702-zynq7.

I'll have to google or check the mailing list to see where the meta-topic is
located at....???

I usually use mkfs.vfat -F 32 -n BOOT /dev/sdx (/dev/sdd in my case)

Similar, I use:

mkfs.ext4 -L rootfs /dev/sdx
