Awesome, thanks.  Just a note that I had to turn daemon mode off on my
webserver (nginx) or init will keep trying to respawn it.

init respawn seems to work well at the moment.  But thanks for
pointing me to runit.  I'll need to compare it with my usual desktop
approach of using supervisor.
